IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lucien J.
Theriault
May 15, 1926 – December 27, 2024
Fort Kent--- Lucien J. Theriault age 98, self-described as a curious man, died in Fort Kent, Maine on December 27, 2024. He was born May 15, 1926 in Wallagrass, Maine, son of Ulysses and Caroline (Marin) Theriault. He was raised in his big family to be conscious of others, to be good and to be kind. He lived those values finding that it was pleasant being kind to others which led to his good and amazing life.
Lucien married Marie Audibert, the love of his life, on July 22, 1947 and together had three wonderful children, Mae Cooke, Beth Tobin and Carl Theriault. Lucien graduated from Fort Kent Community High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy from June 1944 to July 1946 as an aviation electrician maintaining sea airplanes. After discharge from the Navy he attended the University of Maine Orono from 1947 to 1951 graduating with distinction as an Electrical Engineer. While in high school and college he was an electrician in Fort Kent and Bangor. Lucien worked for General Electric from 1951 to 1969 with assignments in Lynn, Holyoke and Pittsfield, Massachusetts, doing design of high voltage transformers. He left GE as Manager of Power Transformers Design Engineering to accept a position as Manager of Engineering for Picker Xray in CT's, NMR and all types of Imaging Systems, in Cleveland, Ohio. Lucien retired from Picker in 1988 and with the help of son Carl started MXI (Medical Xport International) as President and General Manager selling used Picker equipment to developing countries. During his time in Cleveland he designed and built a Passive solar heated home and two vacation homes on a lake in Pennsylvania. In 1993 he and Marie moved home to northern Maine and built a home on Eagle Lake.
Lucien volunteered to design a new addition to the Lonesome Pine Ski Lodge in Fort Kent, and built the addition with a lot of volunteer help. Several years later it became evident that the ski area also really needed a snow making system. Always wanting to learn new things and never one to run away from a challenge, he designed and installed the snow making system. At about the same time, the Maine Winter Sports Center was looking to create a facility in Fort Kent to train and host Biathlon Competitions. Lucien was again very involved in directing and constructing most of the structures that are in place at that facility. Even with all these activities he found time to be on the Fort Kent Planning Board, active in Church affairs, Membership Chair for Fort Kent Senior Center, treasurer for the SJV Senior College and President of the UMFK Foundation. He was also involved in designing the many improvements that were made to the Valley Auto Dealership. In 2001, Lucien and Marie built a new home in Fort Kent and moved to what was the last home they built.
Lucien is survived by his three children, Mae Cooke and husband John, Beth Tobin and husband Ben, and Carl Theriault and wife Pat. Also his seven grandchildren: Derek and Kristen Abraham, Andrew, Jeremy and Eamon Tobin, and Jean Luc and Joseph Theriault as well as seven great grandchildren.
Lucien is predeceased by his beloved wife of 77 years Marie (just this past August ), his many siblings including Bertha Jacques, Guy Theriault, Raymond Theriault, Claude Theriault, Bernice Desjardins, Euclid Theriault, Bernadine Poole, Lorraine Wilson, Danford Theriault, Leonette Pelletier, Lizzyann Theriault and Lionel Theriault and his great grandson Jake Granberg.
