Obituary

Allagash – At 4:22 am, 6 September 2024, Margaret Elaine McBreairty lost her valiant battle with cancer, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home overlooking the St. John River.  She was born at the People's Benevolent Hospital in Fort Kent, Maine, 26 June 1960, the daughter of Theron William McBreairty (20 August 1908 – 12 April 1992) and Hope Elean (McBreairty) McBreairty (12 June 1932 – 19 December 2010).

She is survived by her son, Jeremy Jon McBreairty of Allagash and his daughters, Bailey and Logan McBreairty of Millinocket; her daughter Shannon Marie (McBreairty) Damesworth and son-in-law Adam Damesworth of Waverly, Tennessee, and their four children, Isaiah, Andrew, Jasmine, and Ethan Damesworth.  Margaret is also survived by her siblings, Darrell Robert McBreairty, Carter Theron McBreairty and Nola Mae (McBreairty) Begin of Allagash and Ruth Sarah (McBreairty) Reglin of Windham.  She leaves behind her nieces Candice (Begin) Hafford (husband Michael & children Jayd Begin and Abagayle Hafford) of Allagash; Cindy (Begin) Hafford (husband Bobby & children Katessa and Cameron) of Allagash; Tori Hafford (daughters Taylor Kelly and McKenzie Paradis) of Bangor; and nephews Jarod McBreairty of Winterport; Jordan Reglin of Allagash; and Carter McBreairty Jr. of Allagash.  Margaret is also survived by her Uncle Thomas James McBreairty and Aunt Helen (Kelly) McBreairty of Allagash as well as dozens of cousins, relatives, and countless friends all over the world.

At the age of seventeen, Margaret joined the US Air Force moving up from Airman to Senior Airman.  After serving on bases in the US, she was deployed to Turkey where she finished her military career.  Years later, she secured employment in logistics with multinational companies in Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq and Afghanistan.  While serving in Afghanistan she implemented innovations in security details adopted by companies around the world.

Over the last decade, Dr. Roger C. Inhorn and his team at Mercy Hospital, Maine Medical Center in Portland, and finally at Pen Bay Cancer Care Center in Rockport, Maine, provided her with the most innovated cancer treatments which enabled her more time with her family and loved ones.

The family would like to thank The Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund at Northern Maine Medical Center.  We are truly blessed to have access to this program in our community.  In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you donate to the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Allagash Baptist Church on 9 November 2024 at 1:00pm officiated by Gary Gardner.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
