Obituary

FORT KENT – Marilyn Ann (Fortin) Plourde, 73, entered into eternal rest surrounded by loving family at a Bangor healthcare facility on April 21, 2024.  She was the daughter of the late Wilfred Fortin and Rella (Caron) Fortin Cyr, born August 18, 1950, in Fort Kent, ME.

She was the beloved wife of 54 years to Duane Plourde.  Upon high school graduation, Marilyn relocated to Connecticut for employment and though both originally from Northern Maine, their story began in 1969 where they met at the French Club in Connecticut.  They married, started their family, and resided in Warehouse Point, CT, for 9 years, before returning to Wallagrass/Fort Kent, ME, in 1981.

Family and friends hold dear many outdoor and recreational memories.  In the early years, she, Duane and the kids spent weekends in the deep woods where she and Duane tended wood camps.  When not working, many weekends were spent family camping. As the kids got older, she enjoyed over a decade of weekends away on motorcycling trips with friends, several group cruises, weekends at Glacier Lake, and four wheeling outings.  At the tender age of 68, she target practiced, prepared for, and successfully harvested her first moose, a proud moment for her and the hunters of the family.

Marilyn was known for her dedication and devotion to family, generous hospitality, and delicious meals made for all who visited.  She enjoyed flower gardening, time with family, and caretaking babies.  She most especially cherished her grandchildren, caring, nurturing, spending time, and speaking upon them with pride.  It was those moments in life when her beautiful blue eyes would shine the brightest and her smile the widest.

She is survived by her husband Duane and their three children:  Todd (fiancé Tracy Brown) Plourde of Skowhegan, ME; Christopher (Brandy) Plourde of Embden, ME; Michelle (Larry) Chasse of Fort Kent, ME.  She leaves behind 5 grandchildren:  Zachery, Hannah, Macie, Addison, and Martin.  She leaves behind 5 siblings: Wilfred "June" Fortin, Jr. of Connecticut, James Fortin of Fort Kent, Phyllis (Fortin) Morin of Portland, Gladys (Fortin) Hanson of Patten, Robert Fortin of Connecticut, and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by many loved ones, including her twin sister, Carolyn (Fortin) Pelletier of Connecticut in 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at St. Louis Church, E. Main St., Fort Kent. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilyn's memory may be made to Paws Animal Welfare Society, Rye Ave, Fort Kent, ME 04743. Arrangements are entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home, 14 E. Main St., Fort Kent.
