Madawaska—Martin Lavoie, 98, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2022, at Ridgewood Estates Facility. He was born on August 7, 1923, son of the late Eloi and Laura (Martin) Lavoie. Martin started working for the family dairy farm at the age of 5 years old with his family. His mother would put the milk in jars and Martin would deliver them to families in the neighborhood on his wagon pulled by his dog. He worked on the farm until he was 42 years old; he then started Mid-Town Motel in 1966, where he got the help from his wife and older children. In 1972 Martin opened another Motel named "Martin's Motel". In 1993 Martin wanted to enjoy his retirement and sold the Motel. Martin is survived by his eight children, Florence, Lionel, Irma, Pauline, Rino, Marie, Michael, and Cathy; three siblings, Aurore, Felix, and Lorraine; along with fifteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Martin is predeceased by his wife, Lucille (Marquis) Lavoie; three siblings, Cecile, Robert, and Louise. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, 10am, at St. Thomas Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to, The Edgar J. (Guy) Paradis Cancer Fund, NMMC, 194 East Main St. Fort Kent, ME 04743.
