Obituary

St. David --- Martin E. Morneault, 88, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born on November 25, 1935, in Madawaska, a son of the late Abel and Nelida (Martin) Morneault.  Martin enlisted with the US Air Force following high school in 1954 and served as a medic for four years. In 1963, he worked for the US Postal Service in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he married and started a family with his wife Doris of St. Agatha. The following year they relocated to Marlborough, Connecticut, and his love for animals was evident when he became a dog warden and opened Morno Kennels, a dog grooming and boarding business. During the next 13 years, Martin also worked as a machinist with Veeder Root and then as an oil burner technician for Chevron Oil Company. Between 1963 and 1967, Martin and Doris became proud parents of three children who had to share their birthdays as they were all born on October 10. Martin moved his family back to his hometown of Madawaska in 1977 and started his own business, Morno Heating Service, which he worked long hours at until an untimely disability forced his early retirement in 1985.  Martin was a life member of the Madawaska American Legion Post 147, and a parishioner of the St. David Catholic Church. Throughout his life, Martin selflessly donated over 50 gallons of blood which undoubtedly saved the lives of many, as his type O negative blood made him a universal donor. He enjoyed traveling, stamp collecting, playing card games, listening to music, working in his yard, and making people laugh with his never-ending sense of humor.  Martin is survived by his son Paul, daughter Louise (Martin), three grandchildren, and his sister Cecelia Plourde.  Besides his parents, Martin was predeceased by his wife Doris (Boucher), his son Erick, and two brothers Joel and Elmer.  The family of Martin E. Morneault would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff, nurses, and physicians of High View Manor in Madawaska. Their care and compassion during Martin's extended stay will never be forgotten.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the St. David Church.  Relatives and friends may offer their condolences from 8:00am until 9:30am on Saturday before the Mass at Lajoie Funeral Home in Madawaska.  For online condolences, please visit www.lajoiefuneralhome.com
