Obituary

Van Buren---Michael J. Carbonneau passed away peacefully at the age of 77 at the Caribou Nursing Home, surrounded by love. Born in 1949 to the late Adrien and Lucille Carbonneau.

A veteran of the United States Army, Michael proudly served his country, including time stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he worked for DFAS in Limestone, Maine, for approximately 20 years before eventually retiring. Michael had a special place in his heart for his family and his animals.

He is survived by his brother William “Bill” Carbonneau and his wife, France; his brother Robert Carbonneau and his wife, Sandy; his sister Helen Carbonneau; and his sister Edwina Morris (deceased Cyrus Morris). He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces, Mindy Carbonneau and Sara Carbonneau, and by his great-niece and great-nephew, Abrielle Ruest and Jack Ruest, whom he adored dearly. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Adrien and Lucille Carbonneau; his brothers, Dan, Peter, Greg, and Thomas Carbonneau; as well as his beloved dog, Teddy. Michael’s love for animals was a special part of who he was. His pets brought him great companionship and happiness throughout his life, and Teddy held an especially dear place in his heart. Although Michael will be deeply missed by those who loved him, his family finds comfort in the hope that he is now at peace, reunited with the loved ones who went before him — his brothers and his dear Teddy.

Michael will be resting at Lajoie Funeral Home, where family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 , from 6pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bruno–St. Remi Catholic Church in Van Buren, Maine, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 10:30am. There will be no visiting hours the morning of the funeral. Michael will be laid to rest at the Northern Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Caribou, Maine. May he rest peacefully, surrounded by the love that followed him throughout his life and that will continue to keep his memory alive. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Van Buren Firefighter Support Association, c/o Town of Van Buren, 320 Main Street, Suite 101, Van Buren, ME 04785. All donations will go towards the memorial wall in front of the new firehouse.
