VAN BUREN--- Mildred A. Gervais, 65, died peacefully January 4, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at a Presque Isle hospital following a long illness. She was born July 10, 1948 in Van Buren, a daughter of Prudent and Eva (Pelletier) Ouellette. Mildred was a devoted wife and mother, raising six children. She was a wonderful cook, whipping up the best tomato rice soup and spaghetti with homemade sauce. She and her husband were avid gardeners and always shared their bounty with their family and friends. She enjoyed many types of crafts and donated much of her knitting to Borderview residents. She was a member of the Columbiettes, the American Legion Auxiliary, and assisted with their Tuesday Bingo nights. She participated in the St. Bruno-St. Remi Church Choir, volunteered at People Helping People thrift shop, and assisted with the church's Mercy Meals following funerals. She is survived by: four daughters, Evelyn Comeau and her husband Joe of Brownville Jct., Anna Labreck of Van Buren, Millie Ouellette and her husband Gene of Van Buren, and Nola Michaud and her husband Mark of Van Buren; two sons, Leon Gervais of Machias and Peter Gervais and his wife Amy of Van Buren; two sisters, Bernice Lausier of Oakland and Jeannine Grivois and her husband Norman of Lecanto, FL; one brother, Joseph "Don" Ouellet and his wife Donna of Hamlin; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, Joey, Stephanie, Lance, Adam, Destiny, Chance, Victoria, Ava, Evan, Alyvia & Payton; 1 great grandson, Neil; and special friends, Marilyn Lajoie, Marlene Levesque, Mona Violette & Father David Cote. Mildred is predeceased by: her husband of 38 years, Rudolph "Pete" Gervais; three sisters, Irene Pelletier, Claire Ouellette and Viola Cyr Boucher; two brothers, Raymond and Frank Ouellette; two great grandchildren, Rein and JJ A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren, with Father David Cote officiating. At Mildred's request there will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home-Van Buren, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME.
