Fort Kent--Mildred "Mel" Thibodeau Soucy, 90, passed away March 19, 2021 at Forest Hill Manor. She was a lifelong resident of Van Buren Maine, but more recently Fort Kent, Maine she was born March 6, 1931, the daughter of Adolph and Modeste Martin Thibodeau. Mel will sorely be missed by her son, Clarence "Cur" Soucy and his wife, Patrice of Wallagrass, Maine; son Kenneth "Ken" Soucy and wife, Zoe of Centerville, Ohio; daughter, Martine Dinsmore and husband, Seward of Nine Mile Falls, Washington and daughter, Lou Soucy and husband, Wayne "Fox" Theriault of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Two brothers, Martin Thibodeau and wife Muriel of The Villages, Florida and Father Reynold Thibodeau, Yonkers, New York; sister, Teresa Danielson and husband, Carl of Windsor, Connecticut and brother-in-law, Norman Paradis of Plainville Connecticut; sister-in-law, Edwina Thibodeau, Van Buren Maine. She had 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Lionel Joseph Soucy; her brother Rudolph and his wife Claudette Thibodeau; her sister, Verna Paradis of Plainville, Connecticut, and her brother, Fernand Thibodeau, of Van Buren, Maine. Mel's interests were diverse. She was appreciated for her hospitality. Family and friends came and stayed as long as they wanted. She taught herself to play the organ and guitar. Mel got her GED and went to work as a teacher aid at Van Buren School District for several years. Like many women of her day she canned, sewed, knitted, crocheted, and kept a spotless home. Most notably, Mel was a very spiritual and prayerful member of Saint Bruno – Remi Catholic Church. She did her Cursillo and dedicated herself to the Cursillo Movement and lived her fourth day in the spirit of Christ. She and her husband often opened their home for prayer meetings and Bible studies. She led in numerous prayer chains and witnessed many answers to prayers. Mel also served as Eucharistic minister. To the very end, Mel's mantra was "I am never alone". Due to the current pandemic a funeral service will be held privately by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home. For live streaming of services, visit https://boxcast.tv/view/mildred-soucy-funeral-ub5tlw95m6rg4xi6nrh7
