VAN BUREN---Muriel Ouellette, 92 years young, died July 29, 2016 at a Bangor hospital as a result of an accidental fall at her home. She was born in St. Leonard, N.B., Canada, on January 3, 1924, the daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth (Rioux) Durepos. Widowed at a young age, her mother remarried to Edward Langlais, a widower with a family of his own, and together they raised their children and added several more to their blended family. Muriel, being one of the oldest, had to quit formal schooling to help raise her younger siblings. Though not formally educated, and her first language being French, she taught herself to read and write fluently in both French and English. In her late teens, she left St. Leonard and worked as a nanny in Van Buren, where she later met Edgar Ouellette of Cyr Plantation. They were married on Nov. 26, 1949 at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Van Buren. Edgar and Muriel lived on the family farm in Cyr Plantation for a number of years before moving to Van Buren, and then to their own farm in upper Keegan. Together, they worked the family farm while raising 10 children. Muriel is survived by eight children, Patricia Turgeon and husband Richard of Venice, FL, Sylvia Cyr and husband Russell of Millinocket, Jim Ouellette and wife Nancy of Van Buren, Philip Ouellette of Marysville, CA, Bob Ouellette and wife Gloria of Richmond, Susan Doucette and husband Ralph of Hampden, Lisa Nappi and husband Philip of Henderson, NV, and Mark Ouellette and his partner Carol Graves of Old Orchard Beach; two brothers, Germain Langlais of Naugatuck, CT, and Arsene "Joe" Langlais and his wife Dolores of Hartford, CT., 21 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Edgar in 2002, her dear children, Richard Ouellette in 1981, and Joyce Ouellette
