Obituary

Madawaska-- It is with great sadness that Norman Chasse passed away peacefully at a Madawaska health care facility surrounded by his family on February 18, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born in St David on June 5, 1928 the son of Joseph Chasse and Wellena Gervais. Norman was raised on a farm where he started to work at a young age.  Later on, in life he owned a few businesses in which he instilled his sons to work at a young age as he had done.  He started working for the Town of Madawaska in November 1952 on heavy equipment and eventually changed his career to become a police officer, a job that he loved and was very proud of.  He was promoted to Chief in November 1975 until his retirement in January of 1984. After his retirement, he enjoyed travelling, family gatherings, volunteering at Mizpah, and mostly his fishing in all the lakes surrounding this area.  He enjoyed his grandkids and great grandkids which he would spoil and also loved to tease. He was also a member of the Madawaska Knights of Columbus. Norman is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rachel Rossignol, four children, Daniel and his wife Ghislaine of Madawaska, Carol of Bel Air, Maryland, Steve of Windham, Maine and Glen of Madawaska. He also had five grandchildren, Stephen, Kendra, Derek, Amy and Kelly, eight great grandchildren, Kaiden, Kinsley, Sloane, Vanessa, Bentley, Kaiya, Liam and Kendall Rae.  He is survived by two brothers, Gerald Chasse (Mary Ann) of Van Buren, Ronald Chasse (Denise) of Cabano, QC, four sisters, Marie Mae Vaillancourt, Martha Lavertu (Roger), Nancy Corbin, all of Madawaska and Anne Marie Blaylock (Terry) of Hot Springs, AR.
He was predeceased by four siblings, Priscilla, Edward "Bee", Lionel and Omerine. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Highview Manor where he first stayed and lastly to the staff of Ridgewood Estates, where he spent his last years, for the compassionate care given to Norman during his time there. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Activity Department of Ridgewood Estates. Due to the current pandemic, funeral services will be held at a later date in the early Summer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home.
