Madawaska---Norman M. Cyr, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Van Buren on August 9, 1949, son of the late Armand and Sylvia (Dionne) Cyr. Norman was a member of the Madawaska Fire Department since 1969 and became Fire Chief of the department in 1979, retiring in June of 2012. He was a lifetime member of the Maine Fire Chief Association. He was a trustee of the Madawaska Water District, president of the MMRC World Acadian Congress 2014, and vice president of the Madawaska Historical Society. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty eight years, Linda (Gendreau) Cyr of Madawaska; one daughter, Tammy Wortman and her husband Roland of Fort Fairfield; five grandchildren, Josh, Isaac, Gabrielle, Jesse, and Daniel of Fort Fairfield; two brothers, Richard Cyr and his wife Jeanne of Madawaska, David Cyr and his wife Louise of Woodland; one sister, Kathleen Cyr of Medford, MA; three Godchildren, Steve Cyr of Deluth, GA, Adam Gendreau of Auburn , Alexandria Griffin of Enfield, NH; many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Thursday, February 14 at the St. David Church.
