Madawaska/Grand Isle---Norman Lavertu, 86, passed away at his home in Madawaska on January 11, 2014. He was born in Grand Isle on April 8, 1927, son of the late Ernest and Winnifred (Caron) Lavertu. Norman worked as a potato farmer his whole life until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement, Norman couldn't stay idle and always had to stay active by doing many construction jobs and tinkering with small projects. He is survived by three children, Allen Lavertu, Joyce Dechaine and her husband Michael, and Andrea Brown and her husband David all of Madawaska; nine grandchildren; His siblings, Herby Lavertu and his wife Marcelle of Madawaska, Lucien Lavertu and his wife Joan of Connecticut, Viola Chamberland and her husband Robert of St. Agatha, Bernice Roy and her husband Marc of Connecticut, Dorothy Leslie and her husband James of Maryland, and Elmer Lavertu and his wife Judy of California; a special friend, Claudette Cote of Edmundston; several nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by his wife Priscilla (Chasse) Lavertu, two children, David and James; three siblings, Yvette Gendreau, Manus Lavertu, and Pauline Audet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the St. Gerard Church in Grand Isle. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Thursday and from 8:30am until 9:30am on Friday before the service.
