Madawaska---Normand Lionel Joseph "Joe" Picard, 81, died peacefully on July 11, 2013 at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born in Madawaska on December 7, 1931, son of the late Abel and Regina (Fournier) Picard. He enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home, Joe opened a Mobile Gas station on Main Street in Madawaska and was later employed by Fraser Paper as a welder for many years. He enjoyed jazz, the great outdoors, woodworking, tinkering, and working at his camp. In his later years he could often be seen riding his wheelchair in town smoking his cigar. He was able to live independently for many years in thanks to his wonderful caregivers. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. He is predeceased by his wife of fifty five years, Monique (Pelletier) Picard; a sister, Alfreda Picard. He leaves behind five daughters, Patricia Fillmore of Naples, ME and her husband Millard, Lynn Petcher of Gray, ME, Denise Picard of South Portland, ME and her partner Steve Dumond, Louisa Picard of Freeport, ME, and Sylvie Guerrette of St. David and her husband Kevin; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Avery Fillmore, Ian Petcher; a brother, Patrick Picard of Columbia, CT; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Wednesday, July 17 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Tuesday and from 9am unitl 9:45am on Wednesday. Interment will be held at a later date at the Caribou Veteran's Cemetery.
