Obituary

VAN BUREN--- Patrick E. Pelletier died peacefully on January 24, 2014, at the age of 89, at Borderview Rehab in Van Buren. Pat was born in Van Buren on March 17, 1924, to John B. and Rose (Dionne) Pelletier. Everyone who knew Pat will remember him as a humble, kind, polite, and considerate gentleman; he was always such a gentle soul. He loved spending time at the "family camp" that he built in 1955. Whether it was shoveling the roof in the winter or crawling under the camp to jack it up, he enjoyed it all. Many memorable Charette family reunions and other family gatherings were held at Van Buren Cove. His camp and home were always open to his immediate and extended family. He was often heard saying that there must be a Long Lake in heaven. Most of all, Pat enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved their visits with him. Pat spent 30 years working for Northern National Bank and finished his working career as the bookkeeper/accountant at Borderview, retiring in 1992. He was always as gracious with the public as he was with his family. He will long be remembered by the many people he touched with his friendly smile. He was devoted to his God, lived his Cursillo in 1990 and attended mass daily. He was seen walking to and from church every day, and people would ask about him when they did not see him at mass. Pat is a member of both the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, a member of the Van Buren ATV club, and a past member of the board of directors of the Abel Morneault Library, and a past member and director of Club 17 camp owners. He is survived by: one son, John B. Pelletier and his wife Noreen of Van Buren; daughters Ruth Dionne and her husband Albert of Caribou, Nancy Ouellette and her husband Rudy of Van Buren Cove, Long Lake, Patty Smith and her husband Wayne of Woodland, and Leah Levasseur and her husband Peter of Van Buren; eleven grandchildren, Todd Ouellette and wife Katina, Matthew Dionne, Jennifer (Dionne) Plante and husband Roger, Leslie (Pelletier) Beaulieu and husband John, Jaime (Ouellette) Girouard and husband Scott, Monica(Pelletier) Schoenbaum and husband Michael, Brian Pelletier and wife Yelena, Elizabeth (Dionne) Quinones and husband Justin, Eric Levasseur, David Levasseur and Mark Levasseur; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by four step-grandchildren, Ben Smith and his wife Jen, Stewart Smith and his wife Sharon, Christy Van Egmond and her husband Jeff, and Kevin Smith and his wife Lori. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, "Hub" (Huberte Charette), who died in 1995, a granddaughter , Alison Levasseur, his sisters, Martine Pelletier, Justina Marquis, and Alphonsine Curtis. The family would like to acknowledge Nancy Troeger who provided Pat with so much care and compassion in the past few years. A special thanks is also extended to Claudette Castonguay, Lisa Hebert, the staff at Katahdin Trust Company, and his neighbors at the NorState Federal Credit Union. A very special thank you goes to the wonderful staff at Borderview who worked tirelessly to make Pat comfortable.
