HAMLIN—-Peter J Smith, 77, died peacefully Aug. 28, 2023 at his residence with his loving wife Doda and son Philip by his side.  He was born in Van Buren, May 31, 1946, the son of John and Marguerite (Madore) Smith.  Growing up, Peter especially enjoyed working on the family farm with his Dad. He was a 1964 graduate of Van Buren Boys High School. Peter was employed as a telephone lineman for New England Telephone, which was later acquired by AT&T and then Verizon. Following his retirement from the telephone company, he worked as a contractor for Fraser Paper Co. in Madawaska.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donalda "Doda" (Berube) Smith of Hamlin; one son, Philip Smith of Madawaska; one brother, David Smith and his wife Charlene of Palm Bay, FL; one sister, Susan Deschaines and husband Michael of Melbourne, FL; several nieces and nephews.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday Sept. 9 at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church.
