Van Buren--- Philip J. Marquis, 79, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 29, 2020, while in the arms of his loving wife. Phil was born April 29, 1941 in Van Buren, a son of the late George and Antoinette (Michaud) Marquis.
Phil worked at former Jimmy's Foods, Van Buren, as a sales rep and truck driver. His friendly demeanor, professionalism and pride in his product and abilities was well renowned throughout the St. John Valley and made many friends over his almost 30 years of sales and deliveries. He also spent several years working for Van Buren Recycling, until his retirement in 2006. Phil was an avid snowmobiler and, when there was no snow on the ground, would tend to his gardens, spend time in the woods, or work the wood lots and hay fields. An exceptional family man, Phil was a devoted husband, a loving father, and he loved to attend many of his grandchildren's activities.
He is survived by: his beloved wife of almost 55 years, Leona (Levesque) Marquis of Van Buren; two sons, Paul Marquis and his wife Beth and Gary Marquis and his wife Angie, all of Caribou; three siblings, Alice Parent of Winslow, Louis Marquis and his wife Diane of E. Granby, CT, and John Marquis and his wife Rebecca of W. Springfield, MA; four grandchildren, Michael, Gabrielle, Sebastian & Samuel; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a drive-through processional at 12:30 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at the family homestead, 222 Marquis Road, Van Buren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately with his family at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grand River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phil's name may be made to: Brian's Ride c/o Jefferson Cary Found., PO Box 89, Caribou, ME 04736. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME.
