Van Buren--- Ralph "Sonny" Dumais, loving husband of Beatrice (Powers) Dumais of 61 years, passed away September 25, 2024. He was born July 28, 1940 in Van Buren, son of the late Abel and Rita (Cormier) Dumais.
Upon graduation in 1958 from Van Buren Boys High, he embarked on a meat cutting journey for various grocery stores until his retirement in 2004 after 46 years. Trying to please every customer was his goal. He served on the Van Buren Fire Department for 12 years as a regular member, Lieutenant (1973-75), Captain (1975-77) and Fire Prevention Officer (1974-77). He served his Lord as an altar server at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church during his high school years. Being a sacristan for many years, he served in countless different aspects of the parish, especially caring for the elderly parishioners. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and a very special grandfather to Allison and Sarah.
He is survived by his wife, Bea, of Van Buren; two daughters, Susan Fitzpatrick and husband Bruce of Buxton and Linda Dumais of Van Buren; two cherished granddaughters, Allison and Sarah Fitzpatrick; one brother, Rudy and wife Elaine of Newberry, FL; nieces Megan Mills and husband Geoff of California and Karrah Pearse and husband Andrew of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be missed terribly by his furry grand-dog, Moka.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, 174 Main Street, Van Buren. Burial will be private in the Grand River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ralph's name may be made to: Parish Needs Fund, c/o Knights of Columbus, 284 Main St. Van Buren, ME 04785. Services are provided by Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
