Obituary

Madawaska---Raoul Campagna passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by members of his loving family. Born to Charles and Jeanne (Bosse) Campagna on June 24, 1933, in Edmundston, New Brunswick (Canada), Raoul was one of the eldest sons among 18 children. From a young age, he worked hard to support his family and maintained a strong work ethic throughout his life. He was proud to take care of his own, considering it both his duty and his privilege. Raoul, known affectionately as Ralph, married Rolande Gervais on September 16, 1952, and together they created a large, boisterous, and loving family of seven children. They started their married lives on Third Avenue in Madawaska, moved to Route 1 in Frenchville, and eventually relocated to St. David. He was a diligent, dedicated employee of Fraser Paper Company for 42 years and, upon retiring, enjoyed the leisure of visiting his loved ones, pulling into their driveway in one of his prized vehicles, such as his Dodge Omni (called “The Bazoo”), his cherry red antique MG, and his Harley trike motorcycle. He was well-known in Madawaska and frequented numerous local businesses every day, stopping in to say hello, buy a coffee, and chat with friends and acquaintances. Raoul was first and foremost a family man. He took great pride in supporting his children and grandchildren and loved to learn about how each member of his family was navigating life’s joys and challenges. He held them to a high standard but was there for them whether they succeeded or struggled and communicated often how much he cared. He enjoyed hosting his extended family for large get-togethers, packing the house with multiple generations. He and Rolande also welcomed the family to their camp on Lac Baker, and many beautiful memories were created on that small plot of land. He was also a lover of music. His children fondly remember him strumming his guitar for many years, and he loved listening to music, playing old country on the radio every Saturday night up until his passing. He also enjoyed making music with his family, joining in on impromptu jam sessions in his living room. He supported the musical endeavors of many of his grandchildren, and checked in with them frequently about their practice and progress. When some of his grandchildren played violin and piano during the family’s annual Christmas celebration, Raoul’s smile lit up the room. Raoul is survived by six of his children: Robert Campagna and his wife Shirley of St. David, ME; Linda Beaulieu and her husband Thomas of Frenchville, ME; Donna Rogers and her husband Michael of Niantic, CT; Lise Fournier and her husband Larry of Madawaska, ME; Jane Bosse and her husband Brian of Scarborough, ME; and Gina Michaud and her husband Mitch of Charlestown, NH. He is also survived by nine of his brothers and sisters, and several nieces and nephews, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Raoul was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Rolande (2021), his son Philip (2006), his daughter-in-law Juanita (2026), his parents, and eight of his siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 23, at 10:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Madawaska. Friends and relatives may offer their condolences to the family on Thursday, October 22, from 6:00-8:00pm at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 10th Ave., Madawaska, ME. There will be no visiting hours the morning of the Mass.
