Madawaska---Raoul R. Martin, 90, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2013 at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born in Edmundston, New Brunswick on February 3, 1922, son of the late Michel and Marie (Ouellette) Martin. He worked at Fraser Papers for 33 years until his retirement in 1984. Raoul, known for his athleticism, was always seen playing hockey, cross country skiing, softball, golfing, and bowling; but he especially enjoyed skating and dancing his two step. One of his favorite past times was reading Louis L'Amour old western novels. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus of Madawaska. He was modest and very well liked by the people in the community. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Hermance (Bosse) Martin of Madawaska; four daughters, Linda Slaney and her husband Michael of Fairfield, Diane Cyr and her husband David of St. David, Susan Paradis and her husband Michel of Biddeford, Tammy Casey and her husband Greg of Biddeford; eight grandchildren, Christopher and Joshua Slaney, Kristine and her husband Jeremiah Delisle and Craig Cyr, Erin and Curtis Paradis, Dustin and Dalton Casey; one sister, Gilberte Turgeon; three brothers, Marty, Roland, and Gilles Martin; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Nilda, and by two brothers, John and Maurice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Monday, January 7 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may offer their condolences at the church from 9am until time of service on Monday. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
