IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond "Gene"
Deprey
August 30, 1936 – March 25, 2023
Madawaska --- Raymond "Gene" Deprey, age 86, passed away on March 25 th , 2023, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born in Madawaska, ME on August 30, 1936, youngest son of the late Alfred and Madeline (Theriault) Deprey. Gene was raised in Madawaska where he attended school and played every sport offered. He was an incredible athlete during his high school years and continued his love of sports until just a few years ago. He lettered in basketball, skiing, track & field in High School. He volunteered for many years as a baseball coach for the youth in Madawaska and for years we would hear younger fellows holler at him "Hey Coach". Right out of school he trained to box at a club in Edmundston and then in his 40's got back in shape and played an exhibition game. He told us the crowd cheered him on like he was a pro! His true love was the game of Golf. He polished his golf clubs weeks ahead of the season and was always ready to play. He never met a stranger and made many friends playing in Edmundson, NB, Birch Point and in Hollywood FL. Gene worked at Fraser Paper Mill from the age of 18 until his retirement in his 60s. The work was difficult, but he never complained. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for the majority of his entire adult life, he earned his 4 th degree knight in 1966. He volunteered to help all of his neighbors and was the kind of Father, Husband, Friend you read about in books. He was witty, funny, loved to dance, remembered everyone and one of the best storytellers a person will ever meet. He will be so very missed. Gene led a full life, but his largest legacy will be his love and care of his family. He is survived by his wife Edna, his son Michael Deprey and his wife Kerry, daughter Karen and her wife Terry, two granddaughters Alexis and Kirsten, two brothers, Reno and his wife Becky of Alaska, Elmer and his wife Irene of British Columbia, Canada, along with many nieces and nephews whom he cherished. Gene is predeceased by his three sisters, Mildred Bouchard, Gladys and Ella Deprey; and four brothers, Elude, Alyre, Milford, and Alfred Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on June 16 th , 2023, at the St. Thomas Church in Madawaska. There will be no visiting hours or receiving line. Interment will be held immediately following the service in the Parish cemetery.
