Obituary

Madawaska-- Rinette R. Cyr (Martin) passed away surrounded by family on May 1st, 2021 at the age of 82.  Predeceased by her lifelong partner, Gilman, just a few months earlier.  Their bond would not be easily broken, and the family knew that their time apart would be short.  Rinette was born to Alice (Guimond) and Paul Martin of St. David, ME in 1939.  She was number 8 out of 10 children.  Growing up on the family farm, her days were filled with hard work and mischief. At 16, she smiled shyly at her beau to be, Gilman, surely with a little twinkle in her eye.  Her father's expectation was that she would not wed until she turned 18.  A week after her 18th birthday, their life together began, and their adventures lasted for almost 64 years.  They worked side by side daily until they retired in 1992.  Together they raised a family of five and truly enjoyed their retirement years. Rinette is survived by her son Clifton Cyr and his wife Verna of Madawaska; daughters Shirl Gendreau and husband Mike of St. David;  Marsha Cyr of St. David;  Lisa Smith and her husband Randy of Hermon; Mary Gervais and husband Scott of Frenchville. Rinette was blessed with 12 Grandchildren; Christine, Kyle, Jacob, Lucas, Melyssa, Michelle, Myles, Michael, Isaac, Blake, Olivia and Spencer.  Her life was further enriched with 9 Great Grandchildren; Chloe, Marleigh, Brayden, Quinn, Jaxon, Lawson, Jett, Lucy and Addison. She is survived by her sisters Alex Michaud of Madawaska, Muriel Jasper of Florida, Jackie Cyr of Van Buren, Marietta and husband Donald Cyr of Hamlin, brothers Raymond and wife Sally Martin of Oklahoma, and Clayton and Dorina Martin of Madawaska.  She was predeceased by sister Rachel Michaud, and brothers Jean Paul Martin and Robert Martin. Gilman and Rinette attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madawaska, where they served for many years as altar servers and eucharistic ministers. People commented on her beauty often.  More than physical beauty, her warm smile, welcoming demeanor, and beautiful spirit lit up a room.  She kept her family in stitches until the very end. Due to the current pandemic, a double funeral service and celebration of lives will be planned for Gilman and Rinette on July 10th, 2021.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Knights of Columbus for the St Thomas Aquinas Energy Fund.  ℅ Cliff Cyr, 268 French Street, Madawaska ME 04756. Arrangements have been entrusted by Lajoie funeral home.
