Van Buren--- Rita Westman, 95, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at a Van Buren healthcare facility. She was born July 12, 1918 in Van Buren, a daughter of the late Leon and Leona (Theriault) Dumais. She owned a bed and breakfast with her husband in New Hampshire for many years. Mrs. Westman was past president and long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 49 and assisted with catering the Knights of Columbus suppers. She was an avid crafter and made the best peanut butter fudge. Mrs. Westman is survived by: one sister, Cecile White of Bangor; three godchildren, Debbie Kilham, Carla Lapierre, and Susan Baker; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by: her husband Hilding Westman; six sisters, Sr. Germaine Dumais, Eugenie Dumond, Janine Dawnorowitz, Anne Dumais, Bernadette Lapierre, and Theresa Bernard; and three brothers, Louis, Gerard, and Father Patrick Dumais. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at St. Bruno - St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home-Van Buren, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME.
