Portage Lake & Mechanic Falls--- Robert A. Reece, 71, passed away February 18, 2021, following a period of declining health. He was born April 18, 1949, in Portland, a son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Byrne) Reece.
As Robert completed high school, he received his diploma in one hand and his draft papers in the other. Enlisting in the US Army in 1968, he served in Vietnam with the 205 th Aviation Company. Following his years of dedicated service to his country, Rob returned to Maine and become a Maine State Trooper, patrolling and serving the people of Maine over 25 years, until his retirement in 1992. To keep himself busy, he continued to drive truck for American Steel, So. Portland, for several years. After marrying his loving second wife, Alyce, they relocated to Portage Lake, where they basked in the beauty and peacefulness of northern Maine. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a member of the Portage Lake ATV and Snowmobile clubs, and won and filled a coveted bull moose hunting tag. Rob enjoyed the company of his dogs and cherished many years with his rottweilers.
He is survived by: two children, Raymond Reece and Melanie Julian, both of Lewiston; two siblings, Michelle Maloney and her longtime companion Kris Giest of California, and Tom Reece and his wife Joanne of Westbrook; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his second wife, Alyce (Arnold) Bryant-Reece.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be celebrated at 12 noon on Friday, June 25, 2021, at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Lombard Road, Caribou. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland.
