Hamlin--- Robert A. Ruel, 79, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, April 7, 2018. He was born December 19, 1938 in Lewiston, a son of the late Darius and Juliette (Jacques) Ruel.
Bob was drafted with the US Army and was stationed in South Korea as a munitions handler during the Vietnam Era. Bob last worked for Dunbar Armored Security, New Britain, CT, for several years, until his retirement and relocating to Hamlin, ME, in 2007. Previously he worked many years with former Fafnir Bearings, Connecticut. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1635, Van Buren, a member of the American Legion, Post #49, Van Buren, and a new member of the Van Buren ATV Club. Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife, RoseAnn, to visit family in Connecticut and visiting the casino. Always a "kid at heart," during his later years, he enjoyed spending many weekends dancing in Canada or playing cards with his companion Donna.
He is survived by: three children, Roberta A. Evans and her husband Brian and Patrick G. Ruel, all of New Britain, CT, and Michael J. Ruel and his wife Maria of Newington, CT; his special companion, Donna Ouellet of Hamlin; several siblings, Doris Charest and her husband Chris of Terryville, CT, Raymond Ruel of West Melbourne, FL, Dennis Ruel and his wife Linda of Plainville, CT and Gail Snow and her husband Steve of Southington, CT; seven grandchildren, Stacie, Stephen, Jonathan, Zachary, Eric, Adam & Christopher; two great grandchildren, Jacob & Jonah; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bob is predeceased by his wife of 52 years, RoseAnn (Cyr) Ruel in 2014.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, April 28, 2018, a St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Saturday morning 9-9:45 AM at the church. Burial will be private at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's name may be made to: American Legion, Post #49, PO Box 296, Van Buren, ME 04785. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
