Van Buren & Scarborough--- Robert A. Violette, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 24, 2018, at his home with his family by his side. He was born October 28, 1933 in Van Buren, a son of the late Vital and Estelle (Bosse) Violette.
Robert graduated from former Van Buren Boys High School in 1951 and married Gloria Berube in 1954. He worked his entire career as a logging contractor in the Portage, Ashland, and Allagash forests, concluding his career in and around the Van Buren area. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, served on the St. Bruno's Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister, board member of Van Buren Light and Power, Van Buren town councilman, President of Champlain School PTA, and a former parishioner of St. Bruno - St. Remi Church. After moving to Scarborough, Robert continued to enjoy connecting with his family and friends in Van Buren. He was an avid reader, outdoorsman, and thoroughly enjoyed operating heavy-equipment. He and his wife spent many happy years visiting with family and friends, RVing around the country and in Canada.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gloria (Berube) Violette of Scarborough, formerly of Van Buren; four daughters, Roberta Adair and her partner Don Boucher of Otisfield, Ann Theriault and her husband Dan of Washington, Susan Violette of North Carolina, and Denise Violette of Presque Isle; three sons, Peter Violette and his wife Alice of Windham, John Violette and his wife Yolanda of Mercer, and Brian Violette and his wife Gretchen of Van Buren; his brother, Claude Violette and his wife Rita of Connecticut; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, his sister Adelade Lapierre, his brothers Elmer, Emery, James, Martin, and Eugene Violette, and a son-in-law Scott Adair.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Tuesday morning 9-10:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
