Hamlin--- Rodney V. Ayotte, 83, passed away Saturday morning, January 5, 2019, at a Bangor hospital, following a short illness. He was born October 2, 1935 in Hamlin, the son of the late Adelard and Jeanne (Langlais-Webber) Ayotte.
Rodney enlisted with the US Air Force during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned stateside where he worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction for many years in Connecticut and New York, and was a life member of International Union of Operating Engineers, #137. After his retirement, he returned to Hamlin. He was a member of the American Legion. Post #49, Van Buren. He enjoyed working with his backhoe and could commonly be seen "maintaining" his property or helping his neighbors.
He is survived by: one son, Rodney E. Ayotte and his wife Maureen of Yorktown Heights, NY; two grandchildren, Jennifer Ayotte and Anthony Ayotte, all of Yorktown Heights, NY; one sister, Noreen Call and her husband Richard of York, PA; three brothers, Vaughn Ayotte of Grand Falls, NB, Canada, Howard Ayotte of Hamlin, Arnold Ayotte and his wife Juliette of Cave City, KY; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, January 11, 2019, at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Friday morning 9:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
