Ashland--- Roger E. DeLong, 77, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly August 2, 2020.  He was born February 15, 1943, in Presque Isle, the son of the late Harry and Lola (McHatten) DeLong.

Roger attended schools in Mapleton and Presque Isle, graduating from PIHS in 1961.  He then attended Aroostook State Teachers College, earning a BS degree in K-9 education.  In 1965, Roger began teaching in the Ashland School system where he continued his 36-year teaching career in both the elementary and middle schools.  He retired in 2001.

Roger married Janice (Snowman) DeLong in 1967.  Together, they raised their two children, Trudy and Lee.  Roger was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying many summer and fall days in the woods of northern Maine.  Over the years, he especially treasured the rides with his three brittany spaniels, and later, his golden retriever.  Roger was a hard worker and imparted his work ethic to his children, along with many, many stories of his own past experiences and escapades.

Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice; daughter, Trudy of West Rockport; son, Lee of Presque Isle, and two grandsons, Garrett of Presque Isle and Scott of Westbrook.  He is also survived by his brother, Barry DeLong and wife Suzanne of Madison; nephew, Flint DeLong of Pennsylvania, and niece, Carrie LeBlanc of Sydney.

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Ashland Municipal Cemetery, Sheridan Road, Ashland, with Pastor Bill Harris officiating.
