Obituary

Allagash—Roger Wendell Kelly, 90, passed away on January 25, 2022, at a Fort Kent health care facility. He was born in 1931 at the head of the "Big Rapids" along the St. John River, he was the second born to Harley and Elizabeth Kelly. Roger was a hard-working lumberjack from age 11 until he retired. At age 11 he rode on the back of a horse working with his father; when he retired from working in the woods, he was operating a feller buncher machine. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S Army in Korea with his older brother Earl. He was a Master Maine Guide where he made many lifelong friends guiding many sportsmen down the St. John and Allagash Rivers. Many stayed in contact with him throughout the remainder of his life. He worked many years after his retirement for the Allagash Guide Service where he guided bear, moose, and deer hunters with great success. He loved the outdoors; no matter the time of year, weather conditions or if he was sick or not, you would find him outdoors. Roger would either be fishing in the spring and summer, hunting in the fall, or snowmobiling in the winter looking for moose sheds. He will be greatly missed by all the family and many many friends he came to know in the great outdoors of Maine. The family extends a huge thank you to the employees of Forest Hill Nursing Home for the many years of wonderful care that you provided our Dad in his time of need. You became family to him, and he loved you dearly. Roger is survived by four children, Dana Kelly and his wife Leslie of Westbrook, Dalen Kelly and his wife Gail of Buxton, Cheryl Daigle and her husband Lucien of Fort Kent, Ben Kelly and his wife Michelle of North Carolina; ten grandchildren, Afton, Stuart, Kaila, Deanna, Jessalyn, Samuel, Matthew, Amber, Sarah, and Jenna; six brothers, Ransford, James, Henry, Claude, Galen, and Lee Kelly; four sisters, Betty Jandreau, Rita Hall, Hilda Nadeau, and Hope Kelly; along with many nieces and nephews. Roger is predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Laurine (Thibodeau) Kelly,  one infant daughter, Leah Rose Kelly; one grandson, Daniel Kelly; one brother, Earl Kelly; one sister, Mary Hughes. A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family in June 2022. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
