Roland P. Daigle, 80, of Madawaska, Maine, died peacefully on December 6, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born in St. David, Maine on October 29, 1933 to the late Ernest and Leona (Clavet) Daigle. Roland graduated from Madawaska High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 - 1954. He graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy in Boston, Mass. in 1957. He married Jeannine Franck on November 28, 1957, and they recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Roland took over the family business of Daigle Memorials in Madawaska, until his retirement in 2003. He was a respected member of the community, who helped grieving families during their time of need. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Roland was a keen observer of human nature, and had a very witty sense of humor. He had an intelligent mind and a curious interest in the world around him. He was the type of person who read encyclopedias for fun. He always wanted to know how things worked, and he was good at explaining it to you, complete with animated gestures and sound effects. He was a fountain of historical facts and trivia. He never bothered to learn how to use a computer, but if you asked him a question he knew the answer just as well as Google. He is survived by his wife, Jeannine; his son Michael, daughter-in-law Tammy and granddaughter Alexandra of Aurora, Colorado; his daughter Rebecca of Scarborough; siblings Romeo Daigle, Charles Daigle, and Julie Albert of Madawaska and Armande Michaud of Van Buren; as well as many nieces and nephews, including a special niece Donna Mueller Emack of Houlton. He was pre-deceased by sisters Lorraine Chartier, Alberta Shea, Anita Mueller, and Lillian Daigle, as well as a brother Chester Daigle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12pm on Friday, December 13, 2013 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 9am until 11:45 am on Friday before the funeral.
