Obituary

Van Buren--- Roland A. Deschenes, 84, peacefully entered into rest December 31, 2020. He was born July 5, 1936 in St. Anne, NB, Canada, a son of the late Alcide and Matilda (Clavette) Deschenes.

Roland was a well-known carpenter for many years, working with Buck Construction and along the St. John Valley. He was a Third Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Van Buren and a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church. A skilled craftsman, he enjoyed filling his free time with finish carpentry and furniture making, many times taking on small jobs for his friends and family.

He is survived by: four children, Patsy Nicastro and her husband Chris of Gloucester, MA, David Deschenes and his wife Donna of Seabrook, NH, Aldeo Deschenes and his wife Jessica of Seabrook, NH, and Nancy Moreau and her husband Paul of Grand Falls, NB, Canada; his longtime companion, Jeanne Corriveau of Van Buren; one sister, Dorianne Michaud of Canada; two brothers, Conrad Deschenes and his wife Rita of Florida, and Real Deschenes of New Hampshire; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Roland was predeceased by one son, Don Deschenes, a sister, Rolande Murphy, and two brothers, Claude and Clermont Deschenes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME.
