ALLAGASH - Husband, Father, Grandfather, and a lifelong resident of Allagash Maine, Roland Soucy Sr. passed away peacefully on January 22, 2022, at the age of 96 years old. Roland, born on October 2, 1925, in Fort Kent, Maine to Rudolf and Eveline Soucy, grew up to serve in the Marine Corps and later became a Northern Maine logger at a time when log drives and wood cutting with horses were the industry standard.
He courted and married the love of his life, Grace Soucy; their love endured 71 years until Grace's passing in 2018. Roland is survived by his son, Roland Soucy Jr. (wife, Brenda Soucy); and his daughter, Diana Kelly (husband, Douglas Kelly); both of Allagash, Maine. Roland also leaves a legacy of five grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
Roland is remembered by his passion as an outdoorsman, serving as a guide to those who sought the great Northern Maine Woods to hunt, fish and explore. He loved animals, his gun collection, Johnson motors and riding the Little Back River with his Grumman canoe. Roland will fondly be remembered for his jokester ways, his jovial laugh, and the pride he had in his family.
A family celebration is planned for Summer 2022 where Roland and Grace's remains will be together in the most treasured place of their lives. "Beyond the Sunset, When Day is Done"
