IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roland "Red"
St. Pierre
January 4, 1936 – January 18, 2024
Van Buren--- Roland "Red" St. Pierre, 88, passed away January 18, 2024, following a long illness. He was born January 4, 1936, in Van Buren, a son of the late Antoine and Irene (Madore) St. Pierre.
Red enlisted with the US Army following high school in 1954 and served in Japan during the Korean War. Upon his return stateside, he attended Fort Kent Teachers College, earning his bachelor's degree in history. After returning to his beloved Van Buren, Roland became the US History and Social Studies teacher for Van Buren High School. For many years, Red was an Adult Education teacher and many of his former students have fond memories of him teaching drivers education. Red later discovered the opportunity to assist locals with their insurance needs and was an agent of the former Prudential Insurance Agency for over 10 years, until his retirement in 1990. He was a life member of the American Legion, Post #49, Van Buren, the National Education Association, and a member of the Maine Teachers Association. Along with his wife, Red was a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, where he also participated for many years with religious education, as a Eucharistic Minister, and singing in the church choir. Red was a woodworker and created many furniture pieces for his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing in Long Lake and Grand Falls, NB, traveling with his wife, but mostly loved to spend time in his later years at home with his best dog, Chico.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Therese (Paradis) St. Pierre; four children, Denise St. Pierre and her partner Scott Hopkins of Portland, Margaret Chambers of Van Buren, Suzanne Venezia and her husband Bob of Massachusetts, and Perry St. Pierre and his wife Amy of Falmouth; five grandchildren, Shelby, Jordan, Noah, Jake and Nolan; two great grandsons, Trenton and Grayson; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Roland was predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie Harvey and Cecile Caldwell.
The family of Red St. Pierre would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff, nurses, and physicians of Highview Manor, Madawaska. Their care and compassion during Red's extended stay was insurmountable and will never be forgotten.
