Madawaska---Romeo E. Daigle, 84, died peacefully on September 6, 2014. He was born April 16, 1930, in St. David, the first son and seventh child born to the late Ernest and Leona (Clavet) Daigle. Romeo graduated from Madawaska High School in 1948, attended the Boston School of Anatomy followed by a two-year apprenticeship, and became a licensed Funeral Director in 1951. He took over the family business in 1954. He sold the funeral business to his daughter in 1994, but continued to assist grieving families until health problems dictated his full retirement in 2006. Romeo was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as selectman for a period of 18 years, from 1962 to 1972, and again from 1981 to 1987. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Annette (Daigle); his ex-wife Jeannine (St. Onge) and their children Ann Daigle, David and his wife Eileen, Daniel and his wife Deborah, Lisa Daigle, and Louise Daigle and her partner Deborah Taylor of Portland; seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Charles Daigle and Julie Albert of Madawaska, and Armande Michaud of Van Buren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Thomas P. Daigle; by his sisters Lorraine Chartier, Alberta Shea, Anita Mueller, and Lillian Daigle; and his brothers Chester and Roland. The family would like to thank the staff at CrossWinds Residential Facility for their excellent, attentive care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the St. David Church. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 5-8pm on Thursday and from 8:30am until 9:30am on Friday before the service. Interment will be held immediately following the service in the Parish cemetery.
