Obituary

Van Buren--- Ronald "Popeye" Deschaine, 73, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 13, 2016. He was born October 23, 1942 in Millinocket, a son of the late Frank and Laura (Rossignol) Deschaine.
Ron enlisted with the US Army in 1962 and served honorably during the Vietnam War in Grenada and stateside. Upon his return, Ron worked construction for many years in Waterbury, CT. He relocated to Van Buren in 2006 where he was a member of the American Legion, Post #49, for several years. Ron was a professional bodybuilder and was rewarded as "Mister Waterbury" in 1970 in Connecticut. He was also an avid fisherman and loved to scout out new spots around the St. John Valley.
He is survived by: three siblings, Theresa Aubrie of Middlebury, CT, Doris Boss of Waltham, and Pat Deschaine and his wife Irene of Watertown, CT; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ron was predeceased by six siblings.
A graveside service with military honors will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Lombard Rd., Caribou. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
