Obituary

Madawaska---Ronald L. Gerard passed away peacefully at a Frenchville health care facility on September 12, 2010. He was born in Madawaska on February 21, 1927, the son of Edward and Marie (Bernier) Gerard. Ronald was a veteran of World War II, serving during 1945 to 1946 in Germany. He retired in 1985 from the U.S. Customs Service for which he served in Madawaska, Fort Kent, and Escourt, and as Area Port Director in Jackman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling for many years, most recently he enjoyed spending his time reading, watching history videos, and working in his garden. Ronald is survived by his wife of fifty eight years, Jeannine (Pelletier) Gerard of Madawaska; a son, John Gerard and his fiancée Linda Profenno of Brunswick; a daughter, Ruth Lane and her husband Thomas of Lauderhill, FL; three granddaughters, Daphne and Whitney Gerard of Brunswick, Briana Armstrong and her husband Ben of Bangor; a grandson, Ronald Lane of West Newton, MA; and his precious great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Armstrong of Bangor. He also leaves two sisters, Rochelle Boyer of Simi Valley, CA, and Jenny Schocklin of Clearwater, FL; two brothers, Harold Gerard of Madawaska, and Valmon Gerard and his wife Fern of Chino Hills, CA. Besides his parents, Ronald was predeceased by a brother Herman, and sisters Rena Mae, Mildred, Adeline, and Esther. His family would like to acknowledge the very special care he received from St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Frenchville and the Visiting Nurses of Aroostook during his long battle with cancer. A Funeral Service will be held 11am on Friday, September 17 at the St. Thomas Aquinas church. Family and friends may visit at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Thursday and from 10am until time of service on Friday.
