Eagle Lake/Fort Kent – Ronald Gerard Guy of Eagle Lake/Fort Kent, passed away on June 23, 2019 at EMMC Bangor from the effects of a rare protein disorder called amyloidosis.

"Ronnie" was born July 6, 1946 in Eagle Lake, Maine the son of Norman and Marguerite (Bouthot) Guy, both of whom are pre-deceased.  He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Liz) Tardie, of 48 years.  Together they had three children, a son Lorne, his wife Paula, a son Nathan, his wife Jennifer, both of Nova Scotia and a daughter Rachelle Michaud, with husband Lonnie, of Saco, ME.  They were blessed with 9 wonderful grand-children, Noelle, Jacob, Tori, Cole, Jenna, Shannon, Connor, Isabel and Ethan.

He is also survived by seven loving Guy family members, sister Roma (Diane) Jones of San Francisco, Ca., sister Frances (Jim) LaBrie of Fort Kent, ME, sister Claire of Winthrop, ME, sister Louise of San Francisco, CA, brother Patrick of Boulder, CO, sister Michelle (Ron) Duval of Portland, ME, and sister Phyllis of Aurada, CO.

He leaves behind In-laws Don and Lynda Tardie of Ashland, ME, Ann and Mel Belanger of Soldier Pond, ME, and Larry and Elaine Kuusela of Raymond, ME.  In addition to his parents in-law, Lionel and Laurette Tardie of Winterville, ME, he is also pre-deceased by brother in-law Jim LaBrie and sister in-law Louise Tardie Kuusela.  Many nieces, nephews, and cousins will remember his generosity and love of children.

Ronnie had an accomplished professional career in sales.  Over the years he worked for the A.D. Soucy Company, Fort Kent Seed Growers Association, Carl Smith Foods, Irving and eventually the Daigle Oil Company.  He retired in 2012 to continue his life-long passions and hobbies.  He officiated softball and basketball contests in Aroostook County for over 30 plus years.  He was very active with the Northern Maine Softball Umpires Association serving as both Amateur Softball Association and Federation umpire, mentor and former Umpire in Chief.  He also refereed Elementary, High School and University basketball games as a member of the Northern Maine IAABO Board.   For several decades he held many executive roles on the board as well. He served with the Knights of Columbus at the local and state levels.

Ronnie was a regular fixture at the University of Maine at Fort Kent sporting events and athletic facilities.  He was the Bengals biggest fan and was honored to help where he was needed.   For the better part of 40 years, he acted as scorekeeper and timer at UMFK soccer and basketball games.  Most recently he continued his support of the teams by driving the travel bus for away games.  His favorite destinations included Washington, New York, and Florida State.  He loved getting to know the players and coaches and considered them as family.  He enjoyed physical activity himself.  Racquetball, jogging and lifting weights were part of his regular fitness routine.

Even with all his extra-curricular pursuits Ron always found time for his first true love, Eagle Lake.  With his wife Liz, the self-proclaimed "Kid of Eagle Lake" built their dream home on Seymour Point.  Together they opened their doors to family and friends for all to enjoy.  Days were often filled with pontoon boat rides, water skiing, tubing, picnics and camp fires.  He regularly ended days by paddling his kayak under the stars.  For Ronnie there was no better way to relax and show his appreciation for the lake.

Public visiting hours will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at the Lajoie Funeral Home, 14 East Main Street, in Fort Kent.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019, at 11 AM in the Fort Kent St. Louis Catholic Church.  The very Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie will officiate.
