Obituary

Fort Kent—Ronaldo Levesque, 96, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at his home of 72 years.  Ronaldo was born in Violette Settlement on May 15, 1927, to Remi and Laura (Charette) Levesque.

Ronaldo is survived by his devoted wife Cora (Ouellette).  He and Cora enjoyed 72 years of marriage and many beautiful summer afternoons on their screened porch. He is also survived by his loving children and their spouses; Lynn and Guildo Cyr of Clair, New Brunswick, Ron and Donna of Florida, and Todd and Meredith of New Hampshire; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence of Fort Kent; and a sister, Stella Deschaine of Millinocket.  Besides his parents, Ronaldo was predeceased by his daughter, Gail Milliard, sons Carl and Lee, brothers Antonio, Sylvio, Herby, and Harold, and sisters Rella Deschaine and Ludivine Hibbard.

Ronaldo enjoyed working alongside his father and his brothers in the North Maine Woods as a young boy and into his adulthood. They knew the meaning of hard work and an honest day's pay.  Ronaldo proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Germany.  Once his enlistment was over, he married Cora and moved to Connecticut and soon they moved back to Fort Kent to raise their children and help their aging parents.  Ronaldo worked as a mechanic for Etscovitz Garage and many other jobs until his retirement.  He was also a member of the Fort Kent VFW, the Fort Kent American Legion, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ronaldo, "Nune" as Cora so lovingly referred to him, was truly the salt of the earth.  He was a man of few words but what thoughts he did share were wise and kind.  Talking to him was like listening to a history lesson.  He had much to share about the past with anyone who would ask.  A distinguished veteran, a loving father, grandfather and husband, and a gentle soul, Ronaldo will be fondly remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Fort Kent. Relatives and friends may greet the family Tuesday morning 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home, 14 E. Main St., Fort Kent. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with Military Honors.
