Obituary

Allagash- It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Roy McClearn Gardner Sr. on October 13, 2024. He was born in his beloved hometown of Allagash on August 20, 1929, a son of the late Lee and Pearl (McBreairty) Gardner. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maude Gardner, and his cherished grandson, Erik Gardner, who is pictured with him, who passed just six months previously.

Roy was a treasured figure in the small town of Allagash, Maine, where he served as Town Manager for over 30 years. His commitment to the community was steadfast, and he was well-known and respected by all who crossed his path. The town of Allagash will not be the same without him.

A true outdoorsman, Roy's heart was in the wilderness. He loved fishing and hunting, spending countless days enjoying the beauty of Allagash. For more than 50 years, Roy and his wife operated a sporting business that drew visitors from near and far, introducing them to the beauty of the Allagash and created lifelong friendships along the way.

In addition to his service to Allagash, Roy also worked with the Army Corps of Engineers, serving with pride and distinction.

He leaves behind his son Roy Gardner Jr, along with other family and several grandchildren and great grandchildren who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Roy lived a life full of purpose, community, and joy, and he will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.

Funeral services will be celebrated privately in Allagash Municipal Cemetery, Allagash, ME. Arrangements were a service of Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home, 14 E. Main St., Fort Kent, ME. To share condolences online, please visit www.LajoieFuneralHome.com
