Hamlin---Rudolph O. Martin, 87, passed away on November 2, 2014 at a Van Buren health care facility. He was born in Hamlin on June 10, 1927, son of the late Marcel and Jane (Levasseur) Martin. After high school, Rudy served in the US Army for two years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post #49 of Van Buren. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Hamlin and a member of the Knights of Columbus of Van Buren. Rudy was a potato farmer and worked the family farm for many years. He also worked for other farms and did snow removal at Loring Air Force base. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Antoinette (Martin) Martin of Hamlin; one daughter, Mary Sponcel and her husband Scott of Wasilla, AK; one son, Glenn Martin and his wife Lola of Hamlin; two grandchildren, Rebecca Martin and Jacob True; three step-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Karlen, and Kolbi Sponcel; one brother, Ronald Martin and wife Della of Van Buren; many nieces and nephews. Rudy was predeceased by six sisters, Jeanne, Annette, Rolande, Alvine, Irma, and Doria; two brothers, Fernand and Edgar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the St. Joseph Church in Hamlin. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Wednesday, November 5 and from 9am until 10am on Thursday. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Parish Cemetery.
