Obituary

Eagle Lake — Sandra (Strachan) Froehlich, 87, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at a Fort Kent hospital. She was born on February 10, 1939, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Donald and Elisa (Fitler) Strachan.

In 1961, she married the love of her life, Warren Froehlich Jr., in Princeton, New Jersey. Later, in 1977 they made their home in the beautiful St. John Valley, where they purchased and lovingly renovated the former Sportsman Bar & Inn in Eagle Lake. Over the years, they owned and operated several businesses, including the former Carriage House, becoming well known and respected members of the community.

Sandra was known for her meticulous nature and keen attention to detail. She took pride in doing things well and brought that same care into her home and kitchen. A wonderful cook, she was especially famous among family and friends for her cheesecake — a dessert that became a cherished tradition that has been passed down to her daughter and granddaughters. Her quiet strength, steady presence, and thoughtful ways will be deeply missed.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Wendy Dube and her husband, Lester, of Eagle Lake; four granddaughters, Heidi Rackliffe and her husband, Ryan, of Washburn, Shelley Giberson and her husband, Wayne, of Mapleton, Megan Long of Fort Kent; and Stephanie Michaud and her husband, Bradley, of Fort Kent. She also leaves behind seven cherished great-grandchildren, Owen, Kaylee, Wes, Maxx, Madison, Bethany, and Baron; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sandra was predeceased by her beloved husband of 47 years, Warren Froehlich Jr., in 2008; her son, Donald, in 2025; and her sister, Lisa Wickenden.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Aroostook Road, Eagle Lake, with Pastor Gary Gardner officiating.
