Van Buren--- Stanley J. Gagnon, 74, found peace, on Thursday, April 26, 2018, after battling a brief illness. He was born June 7, 1943 in Van Buren, a son of the late Sylvio and Ludwin (Vaillancourt) Gagnon.
Stan married the love of his life, Judy Bard, in 1968, and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
From a young age Stan was a hard worker. Stan's dedication and Yankee ingenuity would normally require a team. His reputation was well known on local farms, including his favorite Ray Amsden. During his two-decade long career, he worked for Maine Line Fence and PJ Cyr Fencing. Stan's most admirable adventure was caring for the less fortunate, adopting two girls, and giving them a chance in life. He enjoyed outdoor projects and spending time with his family, especially his youngest daughter Sara, dancing at events, taking many trips for coffee, and enjoyed listening to music. He was also well known for his no-nonsense, non-politically correct way that was only topped by his huge heart and caring ways. Stan could most often be seen helping people in his community.
Stanley's family would like to thank all that were a part of his care during his illness, especially Dr. Boma, Dr. Manages, and his care management team.
He is survived by: his wife of almost 50 years, Judy (Bard) Gagnon of Van Buren; three children, Sheila Soucy and her husband Allen of Van Buren, Dana Gagnon and his partner Amanda Larrabee of Hudson, and Sara Gagnon of Van Buren; a very special nephew Stan considered a son, Randy Cyr of Lisbon Falls; seven grandchildren, Mckayla, Chelsea, Melanie, Kaeden, Keyauna, Amelia and Bentley; two great grandsons, Cyrus and Kyree; five sisters, Alexeina Cyr, Joan Lapointe, Rose Marie Searles and her husband Roger, Armance Gagnon, and Linda Bard; two brothers, Charles Gagnon and his wife Cher and Armand Gagnon and his wife Marlene; and a wealth of nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Stan was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Gagnon, four brothers, Meril, Philip Sr., Sylvio Jr., and Gilman Gagnon; and three sisters, Rita Bellefleur, Sylvia Senese and Irene Taylor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Monday 2-4:00 PM and 6- 8:00 PM and Tuesday 8:30-9:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
