Ashland & Norway--- Stanton "Stan" D. Anderson, passed away quietly at his home in Ashland on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, with his daughters by his side. He was born on August 28, 1931, in Portland, Maine, to John and Marjorie (Farnum) Anderson.
He attended elementary school in many Maine towns, and graduated from Norway High School in 1950. After graduation, he worked summers as a cabin boy at Sunset Lodge and Camps, Damariscotta, with his beloved cousin, Bob Folsom. He attended the University of Maine at Orono for two years before Stan was drafted into the Army in 1952, during the Korean Conflict. He spent two years serving his country in Maryland, Georgia, and Texas, as well as on the Canadian Baffin Island, building emergency air strips. Upon discharge from the Army, he attended the Florida State Forest Ranger School in Lake City, FL, and graduated in 1956.
Stan worked as a forester for International Paper Company, where he was employed for 30 years. In retirement, he worked part-time as a land surveyor. Stan knew that he wanted to live his life in beautiful Aroostook County when he visited Eagle Lake as a young forester. He loved the North Maine Woods and enjoyed being outdoors whenever possible. He lived most of his life in Ashland, Maine.
Stan is survived by: his twin daughters, Kristin Hunt and her husband Scott of Franklin, MA, and Katherine Bogart and her husband Lyle of Tacoma, WA; his sister, Cheryl Mudgett and her husband Paul, of New Holland, PA; his ex-wife Joan (Gaston) Anderson Ioannidis; former son-in-law Jay Silberman; and grandchildren Zachary Silberman, Hannah Silberman, Saoirse Bogart, and Waylon Bogart.
Stan was a very private person and, per his wishes, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of his family.
