Obituary

Grand Isle--- Susan I. Dunbar, 78, passed peacefully March 20, 2023, with her devoted husband at her side. She was born February 5, 1945 in Providence, RI, a daughter of the late Clifton and Irene (Beattie) Barbour.

Susan met the love of her life in 1964, Robert Dunbar, in Rhode Island, and quickly knew they were a match made in heaven and eloped to New Hampshire. She worked various jobs in Rhode Island before relocating to the St. John Valley with her husband, where she loved the snow, and many winter outdoor activities. She worked many years at L'Acadie, Van Buren, was a volunteer librarian for Grand Isle, and was a dependable babysitter for a special local family. Sue was a longtime member of the Ladies of St. Anne and adored busing her hands with many crafts. Some of her most favorite times was taking to the snowmobile trails with her husband and her son's many visits.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Dunbar of Grand Isle; one son Robert G. Dunbar of Newburyport, MA; one sister, Dorothy Sundelin of Rhode Island; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Sue was predeceased by two siblings, Harry "Buzz" Barbour and Ann Sundelin

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, Main St., Grand Isle. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's name may be made to Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund c/o NMMC, 194 East Main Street, Fort Kent, ME 04743. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Madawaska.
