Obituary

Madawaska---Susan Gwyer Gerard passed away peacefully at her home on Long Lake in Saint David, Maine, on the 25th of October 2023, aged 68.  She was born in Washington, D.C. on the 31st of March 1955 to her late parents, Rita L (Albert) Gwyer of Madawaska, Maine, and Joseph A Gwyer, of Washington, D.C.  Susan is survived by her husband of 43 years, Thomas Gerard of Madawaska, Maine. She also leaves behind three children and six grandchildren: Katherine Burton and her husband Julian, and their children Sebastian, Alexander, and Mya (Adelaide, Australia); Peter Gerard and his wife Abby, and daughter Francis (Windham, Maine); and Beth Gerard, her husband Daniel Jimenez and their daughters Elia and Aira Gerard Jimenez (Oviedo, Spain).  Susan is also survived by three brothers: Joseph Gwyer Jr. and his wife Linda (Illinois); John Gwyer and his wife Clare (Virginia); Andrew Gwyer and his wife Maura (Maine); and two sisters: Ann Marie Patton (Virginia) and Norma Gwyer and her husband Mark Bachinski (Maine).  Susan was an incredibly talented artist and her renowned pottery brought joy to thousands of people all over the world. She will be remembered for her creative spirit through her works of art and her life-long love of learning.  Susan's memory will be cherished by her family and friends. In honor of her life, a celebration will be held in the summer of 2024 at her home on Long Lake.  Her family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and supporting staff at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent and Northern Light Hospital and Hospice in Presque Isle and Bangor, Maine for their loving care.
