Obituary

Fort Kent-- Theodore "Ted" Thibodeau passed away peacefully on 6/7/2020, with his loving wife of 66 years Marilyn holding his hand. He was 90 years old. He will forever be missed for his gentle spirit, sweet smile and twinkling blue eyes. One of 6 children born to Daniel and Rebecca (née Jandreau)Thibodeau, Ted was born in St Francis, Me on 4/24/1930, where he spent his boyhood fishing for trout on the banks of the St. John River and in the rambling brooks around his family home. He spent his childhood in the Allagash woods, fishing from a homemade wooden raft at McClain Lake, his favorite fishing spot. The trout of McClain breathe a sigh of relief tonight, with Ted's fly rod and flies safely stowed away. At the onset of the Korean War he departed for Okinawa, where his talents in laying the groundwork for communication systems were utilized. He made many friends from across the US, maintaining those friendships for many years after he returned to The County. He married the love of his life, Marilyn (Pelletier) on July 14, 1954. Their life's work was in raising their 4 children and in seeing their grandchildren grow into thoughtful caring adults. Ted's moral code was strong and nonnegotiable:  honor your country, take care of your family, embrace your friends, and give thanks to God for all your blessings. His mantra, "Do your best and that's the best you can do", was evident in all his endeavors. His commitment and dedication to his work was exemplified by his 40 years of service with the Daigle Oil Company. Quietly proud of his service to the country during the Korean War, he remained active with the VFW and the American Legion, never missing a military parade. He held great reverence for God and the many gifts He bestowed on him, remaining active in the Knights of Columbus. Quiet, patient and kind, Ted will be remembered as a man of integrity who found endless wonder in witnessing the beauty of nature. His love for the little red camp on Wallagrass Lake lives on in his grandchildren. They will cherish the times spent together there. They are grateful for having witnessed together a full moon rising so gracefully in the eastern sky many years ago. Ted's favorite spot for contemplation was riverside at 327 St. John Road, accompanied by his lupines swaying in the breeze off the river. He always made time for nature, whether to bask in the glow of a summer sunset, to observe the eagles soaring over the water or to stand witness to the ever changing flow of the waters in the St. John River. He is survived by the love of his life Marilyn (Pelletier) Thibodeau, daughter Carla and husband Ron Harris of Turner Me, daughter Elaine Thibodeau of Frenchville Me, daughter Deanna Mote of Indianapolis IN and beloved grandchildren, Jackson and Halle Mote, of whom he was immensely proud. His sister Rose Mercer of Ct survives him. He is predeceased by his son Derk (Cheryl, Adam and Nicholas Sayre; Alan, Kelley, Alana and Jaslyn Thibodeau) of Franklin, Me with whom he has been reunited in heaven, his brothers Valmond and Treffle, and his sisters Drucy Murch and Sylvia Ouellette. Services will be held on 7/31/2020 in Fort Kent, followed by graveside interment in St Francis. It is fitting that his final resting place lies in the fields that he traversed as a young boy, passing through on his way to his fishing hole in the woods behind his family home. Sleep well, our dear Pepere. You are and will always be Marilyn's beloved. You have made each of us better human beings by the examples you set. You have given us all that we need to take care of one another. We are grateful to you for this gift. You will be with us in the rustle of the wind in the fall leaves, the song of the robin on a spring morning and in the graceful flight of the eagles over Wallagrass Lake.
