Obituary

Van Buren--- Theresa Labbe, 96, peacefully entered into rest October 17, 2024, following a long illness. She was born August 24, 1928 in Van Buren, a daughter of the late Leon and Albertine (Michaud) Dumont.

A graduate of the nursing programs in St-Basille and Edmundston, New Brunswick, Theresa began her career as a registered nurse in Saco, Maine, and as the family moved, worked in hospital settings in Caribou and Van Buren, culminating in a remarkable career at the Borderview Rehabilitation and Living Center in Van Buren. Theresa was a devoted caregiver in these settings and in caring for her loved ones over the years.

Theresa's love of the outdoors was seconded only that of her husband Patrick, who sadly passed in 2010. Friends and family members often reminisce of Pat and Tess's hospitality at their "camps" on Long Lake and at the Big Black River. Like her mother before her, Theresa enjoyed cooking and her platters of Christmas cookies were a much anticipated part of the Holidays. An avid knitter, Theresa's socks, afghans, and sweaters remain a cherished part of her extended family's treasures.

Theresa is survived by her children, Robert Labbe of Van Buren, Kenneth Labbe (and his beloved friend, Florence Beaulieu) of Van Buren, Patty O'Neill (and her husband, Patrick) of Sangerville, and Lynne Wells (and her husband, George) of Winterport. Theresa greatly loved her grandchildren, Nicholas, Justin, Danielle, George, Cory, and Rob, and their families, including five precious great-grandchildren.

Theresa's love knew no bounds as she shared her life with her husband Patrick, her children, and her parents, Albertine and Joseph Madore, and her five sisters: Gloria Cote, "Aunt Bea" (sadly deceased) of Van Buren, Sr. Anita Dumont, SCIM of Biddeford, Carline Gagne of Fort Kent, Leola Gagnon of Madawaska, and Marilyn Lajoie of Cyr Plantation, and their families. Michael Doucette, a cousin and close friend, also held a special place in her heart. Theresa's husband, children, grandchildren, parents, sisters, friends, and their families became the mainstay of her life.

The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the professional staff at Borderview Rehab and Living Center. They showed sincere love and kindness in caring for Theresa. For Mom, this was always her place to be when she needed it.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main St., Van Buren. At the family's request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Theresa's name may be made to: St. Bruno-St. Remi Church c/o Knights of Columbus, 284 Main St., Van Buren, ME 04785, or to the Borderview Rehabilitation and Living Center Activity Program, 208 State St., Van Buren, ME 04785.  Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
