Obituary

It's with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our dear mom, Therese Picard, who peacefully left us on May 21, 2025, at St. Joseph Memory Care in Frenchville. She was 95 years old. Therese was born at home in St. Joseph, New Brunswick, to Alphee and Regina Lacombe. She was the third oldest of 12 children and loved her family dearly. Her deceased siblings are Germaine, Martin, Roland, Real, Olia, Jean-Guy, and Rita. She's survived by Lumina (Mina) Rousseau of Montreal, Raoul and Gaetane Lacombe of Montreal, Marina Soucy of Grand Falls, and Gaetane and husband Robert Oldt of Michigan. Therese opened up her home in Madawaska for her younger brothers and sisters. She loved listening to their stories and inviting them for dinner— she was like a second mom to many. Therese was a beautiful soul—kind, funny, and full of life, and a wonderful, loving woman whose kindness touched everyone she met. She was a devoted mom to her six children: Ginette Gaffney of Maryland, Nicole Seymour of Connecticut, and proud grandma and great grandma to Travis, Heather, Nora, and Lyla, Roland Picard of Edmundston, and proud grandma to Tina and Gary Picard, Lorraine Marston married to Dick of St. Agatha, Real Picard of Madawaska, and Lionel Picard of Virginia with his wife Judy, and proud grandma to their kids, Thomas and Kevin.  Therese loved to create—she sewed adorable outfits for her kids, took art lessons later in life, and even taught art to others. Her love for music was big, too—she learned to play the piano and would sing old French songs during family gatherings and lively Kitchen Parties in Frenchville. She had a real passion for antiques and spent over 50 years exploring the St. John Valley in search of special treasures with stories to tell.  She was dearly loved and cared for by the staff at St. Joseph's Memory Care for these past six and a half years. We're so grateful for their kindness and patience — they truly became part of her story.
We'll be celebrating Therese's life with a memorial service on August 14, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Madawaska. Everyone is welcome to come share memories and honor her beautiful spirit.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the St. Joseph Memory Care Activities.
"Au revoir maman pour l'instant — Nous espérons que tu trouveras le "petit Jésus" avec toute la lumière."
