IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas L.
Cyr
July 31, 1933 – July 11, 2021
Limestone & Cross Lake--- Thomas L. Cyr, 87, peacefully entered into rest Sunday, July 11, 2021, at a Fort Kent hospital, with his family at his side. He was born July 31, 1933 in Limestone, a son of the late Louis and Kathleen (Keefe) Cyr, graduated from Limestone High School and the University of Maine-Orono.
Following his college graduation, Tom enlisted with the US Navy, serving in Rhode Island on the USS Macon. Following his honorable discharge, Tom returned to Limestone to become the long-time owner and manager of the former Cyr's Department Store for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1987. During his retirement years while living on Cross Lake, he was the honorary "road commissioner" of West Side Road, under the direct supervision of his dog, Pepper. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry as a hobby, but he always liked to take on jobs of crafting original pieces for his friends and family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of the Fort Kent Golf Club, and could often be seen in the local pool halls showing off his "pool shark" skills. He cherished his grandchildren's visits and their many long rides, looking for moose, with ol' Johnny Cash playing on the stereo. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Louis Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Limestone.
He is survived by: four children, Jon Cyr of Bangor, Pete Cyr of Hiawassee, GA, Bob Cyr and his wife Jodi of Hiawassee, GA and Carefree, AZ, and Julie Carciero and her husband Ron of Dedham, MA; two brothers, Mike Cyr and his wife Eleanor of Sinclair, and Dan Cyr of Bangor; his longtime companion, Raymonde (Lajoie) Laplante of Van Buren and her extended family; two grandchildren, Amanda Cyr and Dominic Carciero; several grand "dogs", Lady, Frisky, Rusty, Dixby, and Cooper; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sandra (Thompson) Cyr in 2007; and two siblings, Honorable Conrad Cyr, 1 st Circuit, Bangor, and Marilyn Cyr-Legro.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at St. Louis Church, Main St., Limestone. Relatives and friends may greet the family Tuesday evening, 6-8:00 PM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. Burial will be private in the parish cemetery.
