March 6, 1932 – February 1, 2025
Grand Isle and Van Buren--- Viola L. Ouellette, 92, peacefully entered into rest and into the waiting arms of her late husband on February 1, 2025, at a Van Buren healthcare facility. She was born in Keegan on March 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Emile and Elise Morin.
She married the love of her life on January 26, 1959, Normand Ouellette, and quickly started building her family. Always a hard worker, Viola helped her husband around the family potato farm and was an avid gardener, selling her vegetables to passing townspeople. She also raised chickens and churned butter to help with the family's finances. Viola's skilled hands sewed many outfits for her family and she was a wonderful cook, always experimenting with the many recipes in her cookbooks. She was a longtime member of the Ladies of St. Anne-Grand Isle.
She is survived by two daughters, Norma Dionne and her husband Clarence of Van Buren, and Debby Guerrette and her husband Gerard of Grand Isle; five grandchildren, Zach Guerrette and his wife Nicole, Nate Dionne, Keith Guerrette and his wife Emily, Tim Dionne and his wife Katie, Lita Devoe and her husband Lee; four great grandchildren, Avery, Isaiah, Benjamin, and Milo; one sister, Benita Ouellette and her husband Gerard of Grand Isle; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Viola was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Normand Ouellette in 2004, six siblings, Freda Clavette, Medore Parent, Joanne Corriveau, Gilman Morin, Thelma Gervais, and Ronald Morin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main St., Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Wednesday morning 9-9:45 AM at the church. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Grand Isle.
