Madawaska—Virginia Lausier, 89, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2021 at a Frenchville health care facility. She was born on June 10, 1932, the daughter of the late Alfred and Lucy (Michaud) Lausier. Virginia became a member of the Daughters of Wisdom, an international order of Roman Catholic nuns.  Sister Lucy took her perpetual vows in France during the summer of 1957 then eventually returned to the United States where she then taught French at American University in Washington, DC.  After 35 years, Virginia left the convent and eventually returned to "the County" to help care for her mother.  She continued to teach French at the University of Maine at Fort Kent for 15 years before retiring in 2007. Virginia's passion for the outdoors and nature were brought to life through the many photos taken of the local flora and wildlife found in the surrounding fields and woods.  One of Aunt Jean's favorite places was on her front porch where she spent much time visiting with family, making puzzles, reading, and enjoying the occasional ice cream treat from the Tastee Freeze. Virginia is survived by one brother, Greg Lausier and his wife Dot of New Hampshire; two sisters, Martha Ellis and her husband Don of Colorado, and Alice Lausier of Maryland. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Virginia is predeceased by her parents Alfred and Lucy (Michaud) Lausier; two sisters, Theresa Soucy, and Claire Cullen; and one brother, Bob Lausier. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am on August 18, 2021, at St. Thomas Church in Madawaska. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home.
